Tax Planning During A Pandemic

Calendar 2020 has been fraught with unprecedented change in our day-to-day lives, and in the way we conduct business.  It has also posed significant profitability challenges on so many businesses, as it is understood that we are heading into a recession.  However, tax planning opportunities are still available in times of economic downturn.

Join Manu Kakkar of Kakkar CPA Professional Corporation for a practical overview of the tax considerations and planning techniques employed in times when losses and devaluations occur. The presentation will also include several real-world examples and case studies which are drawn from the presenter’s everyday experiences.  In this context, planning alternatives, and common “tips” and “traps” will also be discussed.

More specifically, topics will include but not restricted to

  • Freezes and Refreezes;
  • Departing Canada
  • Tax on Split Income: Excluded Share Definition
  • Taxable Intergenerational Transfers
  • Loss Utilization Techniques/Stop Loss Rules; and
